Another day, another delay. An overnight storm dumped 6 inches of snow on the Happo’one course, forcing a rescheduling of the men’s super-G until today at 3:45 p.m. PST and setting the stage for an alpine tripleheader.

Men’s hockey

The powerful Canadians scored their second straight victory with a 3-2 victory over defending Olympic champion Sweden. Joe Nieuwendyk scored once and had two assists for the Canadians.

The United States, still smarting from a loss to the Swedes, bounced back with a 5-2 victory over underdog Belarus. Captain Chris Chelios scored for the second straight game and Pat LaFontaine added a power-play goal to pace the Americans.

The U.S. team, with 23 NHL players, watched its lead dwindle to 3-2 against Belarus, which claims just a pair of marginal NHL performers.

Alexei Morozov scored the go-ahead goal on a rebound with less than 4 minutes remaining late Saturday as Russia held off Finland 4-3. The Russians could earn the top seed in their group with a victory over the Czech Republic today in the round-robin finale.

Women’s hockey

The first Olympic women’s tournament completed its preliminary round with a preview of the medal games. The United States used a six-goal, third-period explosion to defeat Canada 7-4; the two will meet again in Tuesday’s gold-medal game. Finland defeated China 6-1 in a preview of the bronze-medal contest.

Men’s figure skating

American Todd Eldredge, done in by a shaky showing in the free skate, lost his hope for a medal and finished fourth. Russia’s near-perfect Ilya Kulik seized the gold in his first Olympic competition. Canada’s Elvis Stojko won the silver for the second consecutive Games, while Philippe Candeloro of France leapfrogged over Eldredge for the bronze.

Men’s speedskating

Ids Postma of the Netherlands won the gold medal in the 1,000 meters, finishing in 1 minute, 10.64 seconds. His teammate, Jan Bos, won the silver and Hiroyasu Shimizu of Japan was third.

Women’s speedskating

Canadian Catriona LeMay Doan set her second Olympic record in as many days to win the gold in the 500 meters. Teammate Susan Auch was second and Tomomi Okazaki of Japan was third.

Curling

The American men fell behind early for the second match in a row and lost 9-4 to Norway in the bronze-medal match. The U.S. had rallied by winning three consecutive matches, two in tiebreakers, before losing to Canada 7-1 in the semifinals. Canada was to meet Switzerland later for the gold medal. In the women’s tournament, Canada took the gold over Denmark, 7-5. Sweden topped Britain 10-6 for the bronze.

Two-man bobsled

Italian driver Guenther Huber maintained a slim lead over Pierre Lueders of Canada with one run remaining. Germany’s Christoph Langen was in third. American Brian Shimer was in the top 10.

Ski jumping

Kazuyoshi Funaki unloaded a spectacular jump with perfect style marks to win the gold medal in the 120-meter jump and give the host nation its first Winter Olympic triumph in the sport since Sapporo in 1972. Finland’s Jani Soininen took the silver, Japan’s Masahiko Harada the bronze.

Biathlon

Galina Kukleva of Russia won the gold medal in the women’s 7.5-kilometer biathlon in 23 minutes, 8 seconds. Ursula Disl of Germany won the silver and teammate Katrin Apel finished third.
