Hooked On Basketball

Jim O’Connell, the Associated Press’ national college basketball writer, again showed his devotion to the game last weekend. O’Connell drove from New York City to Storrs, Conn., for a noon game between Connecticut and Stanford. He then drove back in time to catch a 7:30 p.m. St. John’s-West Virginia tipoff.

Not content with two games, O’Connell also listened to Syracuse-Seton Hall, Minnesota-Michigan, and Pace-Quinnipiac on his car radio, switching stations as the signal failed.

Was O’Connell satisfied? “Nah,” he said. “I was bummed out after the St. John’s game when I couldn’t find any more games.” O’Connell made up for it the next day when he drove to Philadelphia for Villanova-Kentucky.
