Jolley Leads Lakeside To Gnl Championship

Riverside may want to skip the second quarter if it plays Lakeside in the postseason as expected.

Brianne Jolley scored 20 as second-ranked Lakeside (17-1, 12-0) wrapped up the Great Northern League title Saturday with a 38-22 win at fifth-ranked Riverside (14-3, 10-2).

Duplicating the game of two weeks ago at Lakeside, the Eagles held Riverside scoreless in the second quarter.

Nikki Petticrew added 13 rebounds for Lakeside, which won its 16th consecutive game. Colleen Lorenz had seven rebounds for the Rams, who have clinched second place and a first-round bye to the District 7-2A tournament at Mt. Spokane High.

Carey Sauer had 28 points and 14 rebounds, and the sixth-ranked Grizzlies (14-4, 8-4) hit 23 of 32 free throws in defeating the visiting Indians (7-11, 3-9).

Mollie McDirmid added 10 rebounds and four assists for Newport, which dashed ahead 17-5 and finished with a 42-7 rebounding edge.

Jacki Albertson scored 21 points on 5-for-6 shooting from 3-point range and added five steals as the visiting Cougars (12-6, 7-5) defeated the Greyhounds (8-10, 4-8).

Chrissy Oneal added eight rebounds for Chewelah, which assured itself no worse than fourth place. Ali Johnston had nine rebounds and eight blocked shots for Pullman, which played without leading scorer Christa Brossman (ankle injury Friday).

Jennifer O’Brien had nine rebounds, and Amanda Oswalt added five assists and four steals as the Stags (9-9, 4-8) defeated the visiting Cardinals (3-15, 0-12).

DP’s Kerry Ann Hardie added three 3-pointers and five assists. The Cardinals were eliminated from district contention.

Tiffany Pittman and Jessica Rohner combined for 13 points in the third quarter as the league-champion Bulldogs (12-8, 6-0) completed the NEA season with a win at KF, also the Bulldogs (5-15, 0-6).

Colfax has won seven consecutive games. KF shot 10 of 43 from the floor and had 22 turnovers.

The teams meet again at 7 p.m. Friday in a District 7-1A tournament opener at Mead High. KF is the No. 4 seed to the double-elimination tourney. No. 2 Reardan (10-10) and No. 3 Freeman (3-16) play at 3:30 p.m. Friday.

EV is the No. 3 seed to the District 7-3A tournament at EWU and opens Tuesday against No. 2 West Valley (10-10). No. 4 Clarkston draws No. 1 and eighth-ranked Cheney (15-5) in its Tuesday opener.
