Lewiston Finishes With Win

High school boys

Idaho’s Border League boys co cluded regular-season play Saturday when visiting Lewiston defeated Sandpoint 75-40.

Lewiston (16-4 overall) finished second place in the league at 13-3, one game behind Coeur d’Alene. Sandpoint completed league play at 3-13, 0-8 against Inland Empire League teams.

No. 5 seed Sandpoint (6-14 overall) will travel to No. 4 Post Falls (10-10) at 7 p.m. Monday in an A-1 Region I elimination game.

The winner advances to the Region I tournament, which begins Wednesday. CdA (16-4) will host the Post Falls-Sandpoint winner while No. 3 Lake City (11-9) travels to Lewiston. Both games begin at 7.

The tournament continues Friday at CdA.

INTERMOUNTAIN LEAGUE

Kellogg 44, Moscow 43

Heath Marek’s layin with 30 seconds left after a lob pass from Brian Carlson allowed the visiting Wildcats (11-7, 6-2) to edge the Bears (14-4, 8-1) and stall Moscow’s bid for an outright league title.

Casey Marek scored 26 and Heath Marek added 11 rebounds and six blocked shots for Kellogg, which tied for second place with St. Maries, its Friday opponent.

Moscow has clinched at least a tie for the league title. The Bears win the title outright if they defeat Lakeland Friday.

Todd Bateman scored 28, hitting 6 of 14 3-point attempts, as the Badgers (7-11, 3-7) completed league play and moved past the visiting Hawks (5-11, 2-6) into fourth place.

The Badgers would host an openinground game at district if they retain fourth place. Lakeland’s remaining games are against first-place Moscow and St. Maries, which is tied for second.

Randy Reinhofer hit 6 of 7 from the floor and the visiting Warriors (10-8, 2-5) made three free throws in the final 20 seconds to preserve a win over the Eagles (11-8, 3-4) at Post Falls.
