Italian media ran a photo of Giuseppina Barbieri Sunday, and doctors have issued a nationwide warning for clients of the 49-year-old prostitute to be tested for HIV, sparking more than 1,000 calls from worried men and some women who allegedly had unprotected sex with Barbieri. The police chief in Ravenna, where Barbieri has been hospitalized, estimated that thousands of people could have had unprotected sex with the woman since she was diagnosed in 1996. Italian news reports, without citing sources, put the estimate at 5,000 and said she was heavily in demand by men across Italy because she was willing to have sex with customers without using a condom.
