Ducks Suspend Qb

Compiled From Wire Services

Oregon coach Mike Bellotti said Monday the Ducks have indefinitely suspended quarterback Akili Smith from the football team after a bar fight early this month.

Smith and running back Saladin McCullough have been under investigation for allegations they beat up a bouncer at a Springfield bar at 12:30 a.m. Feb. 1.

No charges have been filed, but police have questioned both Smith and McCullough.

The bouncer claimed Smith and McCullough tried to sneak into the Mill Camp bar after the two players had been turned away for not having proper identification.

Bellotti says Smith’s status will be evaluated through the rest of the year.
