Man Sentenced In Rape From Last Winter

From Staff And Wire Reports

A Spokane man convicted of raping a 14-year-old girl and assaulting two of her teenage friends was sentenced Thursday to 9 years in prison.

In December, a Spokane County jury convicted Mombasa Douglas, 21, of second-degree rape and two counts of second-degree assault.

Douglas had been initially charged with first-degree rape in connection with the attack, which occurred in a Spokane Valley home on Nov. 12, 1996.

The three girls testified during the trial that they accepted Douglas’ offer to give them a ride from a north Spokane home.

Instead of their intended destination, Douglas took them to a friend’s home.

There, they said he took out several knives and held them at different times to their throats.

After Douglas raped the 14-year-old, the three escaped from the home. The other girls were 14 and 18 years old at the time.

Douglas was arrested the next day by police at a Valley convenience store. He had no prior criminal record. , DataTimes
