African Music, Dance To Be Featured

The Spokane Area Children’s Chorus will team up with the Eastern Washington University Percussion Ensemble and the Dancers and Drummers of Grant Elementary to present an African Celebration concert today and Sunday.

The Dancers and Drummers of Grant Elementary have been playing music for more than 20 years. The group of fourth-sixth grade students practices one day a week before school and must maintain high grades. The concerts will feature the traditional African music and dance of Gahu, Akan, South Africa, and Zulu. More than 130 young performers will present “Sansa Kroma,” a native playground song, “Hymn to Freedom,” “Songs from the Gahu,” “Steal Away,” and a variety of African folksongs.

The performances will be at 7:30 p.m. today and 2 p.m. Sunday at Westminster Congregational Church, 411 S. Washington.

General admission tickets will be available at the door for $5 for adults and $3 for children. , DataTimes
