Casino To Feature Rated Heavyweight Contender

A heavyweight title contender, a former Olympic champion and a local boxer highlight the fight card March 5 at the Coeur d’Alene Tribal Bingo/ Casino in Worley, Idaho.

Heavyweight Jeremy Williams, rated No. 6 by the WBO, according to a Tribal Bingo/Casino press release, will take on Rocky Pepeli (19-10-1).

Williams is 31-2 with losses to Larry Donald and Henry Akinwande. Williams has defeated Bert Cooper and Jesse Ferguson, both by TKO.

Todd Foster (38-4) of Missoula will fight for the first time at the Bingo/Casino. Spokane’s Rick Welliver (9-2-1) also will be in action.

Sam Hampton (19-5-2) will take on Josh Imardiyi (16-2) in a co-main event.

The rest of the card will be announced at a later date.

Prep swimming

Joe Covey of West Valley had third- and fourthplace finishes in the finals of the Washington 3A-2A boys championships at King County Aquatic Center in Federal Way.

Covey was third in the 100 freestyle in 47.06 seconds. Jeff Guyman of Mercer Island won in 45.73. Cheney’s Nate Gosse was 11th (49.39).

Covey was fourth in the 50 freestyle in in 21.54. Guyman won in a meet-record 20.82.

Cheney took seventh in the 200 freestyle relay in 1:32.29. Pullman was 14th in 1:34.10. Mt. Rainier won in 1:28.02.

Mercer Island won the team title.

Golf

Sun Dance Golf Course will open Tuesday. Weather permitting, carts will be available.

College baseball

Washington State starter Wade Parrish threw his second career complete game and Steve Curran hit his third home run of the season to lead the Cougars (4-3) to a 7-1 win over Gonzaga University Friday at Posse Stadium in Pasco.

Parrish (2-0) allowed one run on two hits in the first inning, then settled down to dominate the Gonzaga (0-1) lineup. After giving up a one-out single to Kevin Taylor in the third, he did not allow another Gonzaga hit until the ninth inning.
