Dollar Looks Rosier Against Yen, Mark

Associated Press

The dollar on Friday hit a one-month high against the Japanese yen as investors expressed disappointment with measures offered by Japan’s ruling party to bolster the weak economy.

The dollar also rose against the German mark as traders awaited the outcome of a meeting of finance officials from the Group of Seven industrial nations and negotiations with Iraq aimed at easing tensions over U.N. weapons inspectors.

In late New York trading, the dollar was quoted at 128.00 yen, up from 126.16 late Thursday. During intraday trading, the dollar reached 128.10 yen. The dollar last reached that level on Jan. 20 when it hit 128.38 yen. The U.S. currency also was changing hands at 1.8214 marks, up from 1.8162.
