Freeman Keeps On Rolling In District Tourney Opener

District 7-1A

Ryan Snyder was nearly perfect Friday as Freeman continued to roll past Northeast A League teams.

Snyder made 9 of 10 field goals and 3 of 3 free throws to score 21 and lead the top-seeded Scotties (16-5) past Kettle Falls 60-30 in a boys District 1A tourney opener at Mead High School.

Freeman is 7-0 against NEA teams and has three losses to 2A Great Northern League teams.

Snyder and D.J. Goldsmith added nine rebounds apiece as the Scotties won their sixth consecutive game. Freeman’s Josh White shadowed top Bulldogs scorer Ben George and held him to 2-of-7 shooting from the floor.

Freeman plays for a berth in the winner-to-state bracket at 7 tonight against Reardan. The Scotties are 2-0 against Reardan this year. KF (5-16) plays a 3:30 loser-out against Colfax.

The second-seeded Indians (14-7) secured the win when the third-seeded Bulldogs (11-10) missed a shot with 3 seconds left.

Reardan’s Rhett Soliday made 5 of 6 field goals from inside 3-point range. Reardan is 3-0 against Colfax this year.

Reardan began its year 1-4. Colfax started 9-2.

Kendra and Becky VanTine combined for 17 rebounds to lead a 48-28 advantage as top-seeded Colfax (13-8) defeated fourth-seeded Kettle Falls (5-16).

Colfax hit 21 of 44 from the field, including Jessica Rohner’s 6-for-10 effort.

Colfax plays Reardan at 8:30 tonight for a berth in the winner-to-state round. KF plays Freeman at 5 in a loser-out.

Kristen Turner totaled 20 points and 12 rebounds, and Gina Cassaro added five assists as the Indians (11-10) defeated the Scotties (3-17).

Turner shot 8 of 15 from the field and scored all of her team’s second-quarter points. Freeman’s Stacia Palladino scored all of her 12 in the fourth quarter.
