Police Warn Of Phone Scam

From Staff And Wire Reports

Police are warning of a possible telephone scam involving the solicitation of money for a fictitious organization representing the wives of slain police officers.

A caller told a local business that the business had been a longtime supporter of the charitable organization and asked that they continue their support by donating $125. The man told the business he belonged to an organization representing the wives of slain police officers in Idaho.

When the business asked him for a call-back number, it was told “911,” police said.

Representatives of the Idaho Peace Officer’s Memorial Fund and state police academy said they do not solicit donations over the phone.

Police are requesting that anyone who receives a similar call hang up and dial star-57 to get the number of the person who called.
