Twins Help Desales Get Some Revenge Against Sje

District 9-B

DeSales waited a year to pay back St. John-Endicott, then nearly blew its chance on Friday.

Twins Erin and Amber Hellberg combined for 12 rebounds and 35 points, eight points in overtime, as the fifth-ranked Irish (18-3) edged SJE 57-54 to open the tournament at Walla Walla Community College.

The teams’ last meeting, one year ago, was a district winner-to-state, loser-out game won by SJE 57-51.

Amber Hellberg added eight steals. Dale Stolmeier and Breanna Schmick had nine rebounds apiece, and Casey Gossard scored 10 fourth-quarter points for the Eagles (11-12).

Both play at Washington State University on Monday. DeSales meets LaCrosse-Washtucna in a semifinal at 6:30 p.m. SJE plays a loser-out at 1 against Pomeroy.
