Broussard Breaks Own 55-Meter High Hurdle Mark

Eastern Washington University hurdler Seville Broussard broke her own school record in the 55-meter high hurdles to highlight the EWU Last Chance Open Indoor Track and Field Meet Saturday at Thorpe Fieldhouse.

Broussard had a time of 7.92 seconds in the finals of the hurdles to break her previous record of 7.96 set almost exactly a year ago on Feb. 22. Agneta Rosenblad was second with a time of 8.07.

A junior from Walla Walla, Broussard’s previous best time this season was an 8.07 clocking in the Vandal In door. She will defend her 55-meter hurdles title at the Big Sky Conference Championships Friday and Saturday in Bozeman, Mont.

College baseball

The Gonzaga Bulldogs capitalized on five Washington State errors and the solid relief pitching of Nick Hess to capture a 10-4 baseball win over the Cougars on a cold and windy Saturday afternoon at Posse Stadium in Pasco.

Idaho prep basketball

Junior Janelle Ruen scored 27 points, sophomore Carmi Eberle added 19 and Post Falls held usually high-scoring Brittney Hawks to just 12 as the Trojans beat Madison 68-54 for third place at the Idaho A-1 girls high school basketball tournament at Nampa, Idaho.

Lindsay Herbert scored 13 points and Alison Asher added 10 as Lake City defeated Highland 44-29 for the tournament’s consolation title and fourth place.

Sophomore Courtney Goetz led a balanced scoring effort with 13 points as Moscow beat Bonners Ferry 55-36 for the A-2 tournament’s consolation title.
