Ccm Sponsoring Trip To Tour Arts In L.A.

The Cheney Cowles Museum is sponsoring a Los Angeles Arts Tour for May 6-9.

Visits will be made to the Museum of Contemporary Art, the Getty Center and the Los Angeles County Museum of Arts. Optional events include a recital by violinist Anne-Sophie Mutter and a performance of the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra.

A tour of Hollywood, Beverly Hills, Olivera Street and Rodeo Drive is included.

Cost is $700 with a single hotel room, $600 for a double, or $550 for a triple. The price includes airfare, other transportation and museum admissions.

Registration is due March 3, with a deposit of $250, and the balance by March 30.

Chess sets as art

The Maryhill Museum of Art in Goldendale, Wash., is inviting students from kindergarten to high school seniors to create original chess sets for exhibition.

Selected entries will be shown at the museum from April 16 through June 21.

Chess sets must be original concepts designed and created by an individual, team, classroom or chess club. They can utilize a variety of art materials as well as found objects.

Project deadline is March 27.

Teachers can incorporate the project into their curriculum; special information packets are available.

The museum is 100 miles east of Portland, on Washington Scenic Route 14.

Acting classes begin

Spokane Civic Theatre starts its spring session of classes on Monday. There will be drama classes for three age groups: students in grades 1-3, 4-6, and 7-9. Classes will be held early evening, with the start times varying, depending on the age group. Cost is $60, with a maximum of 16 students per class.

Two-dimensional art needed

Artists are invited to submit two-dimensional art pieces in the Mae Whitney Art Show, April 17-19, at Riverview Terrace. The show is sponsored by the River Ridge Association of Fine Art and the American Pen Women of Spokane.

Art work can be oil (including acrylic in heavy medium), water media, pastels and mixed media, and drawings.

There is a $2 entry fee for each piece submitted, with a limit of two pieces per artist. Deadline is March 31. For registration information, call 466-1554 or 981-6671.

Southwest pottery lecture

Lynn Pankonin, curator of the pottery exhibit in the Jundt Art Museum, will present a free lecture on “Views of Southwest Pottery” at 7:30 p.m. Thursday.

The lecture will be in the Jundt Lecture Hall on the Gonzaga University campus.
