Nic Women Take Double-Ot Win

The postseason-bound North Idaho College women’s basketball team had its hands full Saturday against Colorado Northwestern, which is tied for eighth place in the 10-team Scenic West Athletic Conference.

The biggest obstacle for the Cardinals was a 22-point first-half deficit, but that eventually gave way to a 95-93 double-overtime victory at Raingely, Colo.

The Cardinals made up seven points of their deficit by halftime and trailed 43-28, then tied it with 8 minutes left in regulation.

North Idaho led by six with 1 minute left in regulation but could not hold on. At the end of the first overtime it took a 3-pointer at the buzzer by CNW’s Kacee Bagley to extend the game. After CNW’s Jelena Alba made two free throws to tie the game at 93 with 8 seconds left in the second overtime, NIC’s Becki Huddle fed Erin Dowhy for the winning score with 1 second left.

In the men’s game between the schools, Colorado Northwestern defeated North Idaho 93-87. Details were unavailable at press time.
