Reardan Avenges Losses To Freeman

Reardan, a State B finalist last year, has two shots to qualify for the State 1A tournament.

Rhett Soliday scored 20 points, and Reece Jenkin and Brandon Nollmeyer combined for 15 rebounds Saturday as the second-seeded Indians (15-7) turned the tide to defeat top-seeded Freeman 49-34 at the District 7-1A tournament at Mead High.

Freeman (16-6) had won six consecutive games, including two over Reardan. The Scotties must now defeat Colfax at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, then top Reardan on Friday and Saturday to advance to state.

Brent Damery scored 26, hitting 9 of 13 from the floor and 8 of 8 from the line, as the Bulldogs (12-10) eliminated KF (5-17).

Ryan VanDyke added nine rebounds for Colfax, which finished 14 of 15 from the line. Colfax must continue on without starting point guard Mark Brownell, who injured his wrist Friday and is out for the season.

KF was 14 of 48 from the floor.

The top-seeded Bulldogs (14-8) converted four third-quarter turnovers into six points and hit 8 of 10 free throws in the fourth quarter to defeat the second-seeded Indians (11-11) for the third time this year.

Colfax, which has won nine straight, will advance with the lone berth to state unless it is defeated twice next weekend. Reardan plays Freeman at 6 p.m. Tuesday. The winner must defeat Colfax Friday and Saturday to qualify for state.

Reardan’s Kristen Turner eclipsed 1,000 career points. Catheryn Jayne of the Indians added eight rebounds and five steals.

Heather Wilkerson had eight rebounds and the Scotties (4-17) shook off a 10-point first half to eliminate the Bulldogs (5-17).
