Record For The Day

Associated Press

Snowmobiling

Randy Gravatt and Joe Williams of Island Park, Idaho, rode 1,289 miles recently to break the Guiness Book of World Records mark for the longest snowmobile tour in 24 hours.

The record they broke was their own - 912 miles.

This time, they had better weather conditions.

During the 24-hour run, each man made about 18 stops, all less than 5 minutes each, to refuel, eat and redress. Pit crews of three helped them each time they stopped.

Island Park’s mayor and a Fremont County sheriff’s deputy were on hand to witness the record-breaking event. Their signatures were needed to get Guiness to recognize the effort.

Williams and Gravatt trained for several weeks, driving about 80 to 100 miles every night after work.
