Cathedral Will Offer Lenten Evening Series

The Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist will host a series of Lenten family evenings beginning Wednesday and running through April 1. Each evening will begin with a worship service at 6 p.m. followed by a potluck supper at 6:30 p.m.

Programs for children and adults will round out the free evening.

“Discernment: A Way of Life” is the theme for the adults’ program, while children will learn in “Treasure Hunt! Looking for God’s Gifts” about the gifts God has given.

Presenters for the adult program will include City Councilwoman Roberta Green, the Rev. Woody Garvin of First Presbyterian Church, and Rabbi Jacob Izakson of Temple Beth Shalom.

All are invited to attend these special evenings. Child care will be provided for children too young to participate.

The cathedral will also present the Concordia College Choir in concert at 7:30 p.m. Friday. The choir has toured nationally and internationally and has performed for the king and queen of Norway.

Concordia College was founded by Norwegian immigrants in 1891 in Moorhead, Minn. The college is affiliated with the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America.

There is no charge for the concert.

Soup and salad planned at Westminster

Westminster Congregational United Church of Christ, 411 S. Washington, will offer a soup and salad luncheon after the 10:30 a.m. worship service on Sunday.

The cost is $4 for adults, $2 for children, or $10 per family.

The luncheon is a fund-raiser for the church’s Michal Chapter, which will distribute the money to various local charities.

Westminster will also present a series of Wednesday-evening Lenten studies starting this week. The series will be offered each Wednesday through April 8.

Each evening will begin with a potluck dinner at 6 p.m., with the class following. Each class will focus on a different Bible passage.

The series is free, and no advance registration is required.

Lenten study program begins

Manito United Methodist Church, 3220 S. Grand Blvd., will offer a soup supper and Lenten study each Wednesday during March. Each evening will begin with a soup supper at 6 p.m., and the study program will start at 7 p.m.

Adults participating in the program will hear a presentation from a different church committee each week. The program also will include activities for children, who will have the opportunity to learn a drama to be performed at a later date.

The events are free, and no advance registration is required.
