Relics Won’t Stop Port Of Seattle Project

From Staff And Wire Reports

An archaeologist has told Port of Seattle commissioners that no additional remains have been found at the waterfront site of the port’s World Trade Center complex.

Lynn Larson, head of an archaeological services firm hired by the port after remains believed to be those of a Duwamish Indian were found earlier this month, said she has completed field work at the site.

She said Tuesday the artifacts recovered do not meet state criteria for a major archaeological site.

Work has been halted at the south portion of the site until state and federal agencies consider whether it should resume. Work continues at the north end of the property, where two buildings in the complex are under construction. Larson said she has found no indication of artifacts there.

Archaeologists will continue monitoring the site for additional remains near where the relics were found.
