Dollar Falls Against Yen

The dollar fell more than a full yen against the Japanese currency during a daylong slide prompted by indications Japanese officials would yet produce a strong economic recovery package.

The dollar also fell against the German mark and other major currencies.

The fall against the yen was the latest move in a weeks-long seesaw based on whether the Japanese would finally formulate a package strong enough to overcome the country’s economic problems.

“There really hasn’t been other news out today. People focused on what the Japanese will or will not do in the next month,” said Jay Bryson, an economist at First Union Capital Markets in Charlotte, N.C.
