Pianist Plays Obscure Rachmaninoff Piece

Travis Rivers

Christopher O’Riley will perform one of Rachmaninoff’s least-frequently performed concertos, the Piano Concerto No. 1, with the Spokane Symphony tonight in a classical concert at the Opera House.

O’Riley has won prizes in the world’s major piano competitions, has played in concert with major U.S. orchestras and has recorded a variety of repertoire for the country’s leading record companies.

Jung-Ho Pak, the symphony’s associate conductor, will lead the orchestra in Arthur Honegger’s tone poem “Pacific 231” and Ralph Vaughan Williams’ “A London Symphony.”

A pre-concert lecture by James Schoepflin begins at 7 p.m.; the concert begins at 8 p.m. Tickets are $13.50 to $28.50 and are available at the Symphony box office in the Seafirst Building, 624-1200, and through G&B, 325-SEAT or (800) 325-SEAT.
