Alford Again At Helm Of Daily Newspapers

From Staff And Wire Reports

Lewiston newspaper publisher A.L. Alford Jr. is regaining the newspapers he sold in 1981.

The Kearns-Tribune Corp. announced Wednesday that it has reached agreement to sell four newspapers in Washington, Nevada and Idaho.

In a statement, the wholly owned subsidiary of Tele-Communications Inc. said it is selling The Lewiston Morning Tribune in Lewiston, The Moscow-Pullman Daily News in Moscow, Idaho, The Whitman County Gazette in Colfax, Wash., and The Daily Sparks Tribune in Sparks, Nev., to Alford’s TPC Holdings Inc.

Details of the sale were not disclosed. The state said it was subject to regulatory approval and should be completed before the end of March.

The statement said the Kearns-Tribune Corp. will retain ownership of The Salt Lake Tribune.

The sale of the four papers continues Tele-Communications Inc.’s strategy of focusing on its core cable television business.
