But What A Game Cougs Run Out Of Time; Um 21, WSU 16

A glorious season of Washington State football ended in defeat Thursday. But the game’s controversial finish that cut short a Cougar rally didn’t diminish the team’s accomplishments.

Gee-whiz grins graced the faces of the Cougar faithful from mid-season on. The Cougars awed and impressed those both near and far. Even naysayers found renewed faith in watching athletes who saw success in playing hard and playing fair.

There’s something to be said for teamwork, for pride and for believing, if only for a moment, in a collective identity borne of big dreams and long-shot hopes.

Washington State offered us that moment this year. May the words “Go Cougs” continue to inspire and motivate us long after Jan. 1, 1998.
