Overdose Killed Comedian Farley

Associated Press

Comic Chris Farley followed the path of his idol John Belushi right to the end, dying of a drug overdose at age 33.

The Cook County medical examiner on Friday said an accidental overdose of morphine and cocaine killed Farley in his Chicago apartment on Dec. 18.

A narrowing of the arteries to the heart was a significant factor in the death of the 296-pound, 5-foot-8 comic, Medical Examiner Dr. Edmund Donoghue said.

Blood tests found Farley also had taken the antidepressant Prozac, and an antihistamine, but those did not contribute to his death, Donoghue said. Traces of marijuana also were found in his body, but no alcohol.
