Earl Spencer Prepares To Sell Tickets To See Diana’s Island

Compiled From Wire Services

Starting Monday, admirers of Princess Diana will be able to reserve tickets to view her island burial site this summer - for a $15.50 fee.

Profits are to go to the Diana, Princess of Wales charity.

Earl Spencer, Diana’s brother, has set up 200 telephone lines that will take calls 24 hours a day to sell advance-purchase tickets to Althorp, the family estate in Northamptonshire county.

A maximum of 2,500 visitors each day will be able to see the island, but not set foot on it. Former stables on the grounds of the estate are being converted into a museum celebrating Diana’s life. Althorp will be open from July 1, Diana’s birthday, to Aug. 30.

Aug. 31, the date in 1997 that Diana died in a car crash in Paris, will be preserved as a quiet family day.
