East Valley Ends 18-Game Losing Streak

East Valley’s 18-game losing streak ended Tuesday, but not without a sweat.

Jesse Quirk made 7 of 14 shots from the field and the Knights (1-8) withstood a late Riverside rally to defeat the Rams 63-61 in a non-leaguer at EV.

EV led by seven points with 2 minutes left, but the Rams (2-4) pulled within two on Derek Crance’s basket with 7 seconds to go. Riverside couldn’t connect on a final shot after EV’s Steve Henderson missed two free throws.

The Knights’ previous win was Jan. 21, 1997, against Medical Lake.

Cheney held Andre Jackson to one free throw in the second half after the Cardinals guard scored 12 before intermission.

Ryan Harms scored eight first-quarter points and Brent Cummings had 10 rebounds as the Greyhounds (5-0) defeated the visiting Bulldogs (6-2) for the second time this year.

Pullman shot 29 of 50 (58 percent) from the floor, including Josh Bray’s 5-for-9 effort. Mark Van Tine of Colfax had seven rebounds.
