Ccs Women Whip Cbc

Shelley Massingale scored 23 points, blocked six shots and had three steals to push the Community Colleges of Spokane to a 65-36 women’s college basketball victory over Columbia Basin on Wednesday night.

The Sasquatch relied on strong defense to shut the Hawks down and outrebounded CBC 44-26. Kelli Pilkington led the Sasquatch with 14 boards and added 13 points.

“It was one of the better defensive efforts we’ve had,” coach Bruce Johnson said.

Columbia Basin rode a second-half surge to a win over the Sasquatch.

The Hawks came alive in the second half to outscore CCS 42-28.

Jeromy Thompson led the Hawks with 19 points on 7-of-12 shooting.

A telling statistic came at the free-throw line, where the Hawks hit 12 of 15 shots to 6 of 7 for the Sasquatch.

A 29-29 first half gave way to a CBC run as the Hawks improved their field-goal percentage from 33 to 57 after intermission.

For the game, the Hawks hit 26 of 57 field goals for 46 percent. CCS hit 24 of 63 shots for 38 percent.

Brian Callaway added 16 points for CBC.

Kurt Long led the Sasquatch with 18 points, including both of the free throws he attempted. Spencer Modesto added 14 points.
