Golfer Shoots Manager, Kills Self

Compiled From Wire Services

A former professional golfer who was reprimanded for his behavior on a public course shot the course manager in the chest Wednesday and then killed himself in the pro shop.

The board of directors of the Mount Dora Golf Association had written Ernie Tardiff, 85, several letters and threatened to bar him from the course for his behavior, which included driving his cart onto greens before putting, said police investigator Guy Dailey.

Tardiff shot 58-year-old Douglas Passen twice in the chest, called police, then turned the gun on himself. Passen is listed in stable condition after surgery.
