Chester ‘Chet’ Dashiell Chewelah, Wash.

Service for Chester “Chet” John Dashiell, 87, will be at 2 p.m. today at New Life Christian Center in Addy, Wash. Burial will follow at the Chewelah Memorial Park. Schanzenbach Funeral Home in Chewelah is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Dashiell, who was born in Mount Hope, Wash., died Sunday.

He worked on the railroad, in road construction jobs and farmed until moving to Stevens County in 1940 to farm and raise cattle.

Mr. Dashiell started working for the Stevens County Road Department in 1955. He retired in 1973 and continued to work on call for 13 years.

He was a member of the Addy Grange where he served as master of the grange for four years. He was a member of the state and national granges.

Mr. Dashiell was involved with youth as a leader in 4-H, the Chewelah Recreation Association board of directors, Girls’ Softball League and the Little League in Chewelah.

He served at one time as president of the Chewelah Parent Teachers Association and the union of the Stevens County Road Department.

His wife, Babe, died last April.

Survivors include a son, Dick Dashiell of Deer Park; two daughters, Nancy Miller and Ann Rail, both of Chewelah; a brother, Tom Dashiell of Fairfield; a sister, Margaret Primmer of Rockford; nine grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.

Clarence Hemmerling Odessa, Wash.

Service for Clarence H. Hemmerling, 82, will be at 11 a.m. today at Heritage United Christian Church in Odessa. Burial will follow at the Odessa Cemetery. Strate Funeral Home in Davenport, Wash., is in charge of arrangements.

Born in Odessa, Mr. Hemmerling died Monday.

He graduated from Odessa High School and worked for an insurance agency in Spokane for three years.

In 1938 he married Carolyn Derr.

Mr. Hemmerling then moved back to Odessa and worked as a bookkeeper for the Odessa Trading Co. until 1941.

From 1941 to 1946 he worked on the family farm, and then opened and operated Hemmerling Insurance Agency from 1946 to 1977 before retiring in 1978.

He was a member of the Odessa Lions Club, Odessa Chamber of Commerce, Odessa Lanes, Odessa Golf Course and the Odessa Fire Department.

His wife died in 1989.

Survivors include three daughters, Kathy Wacker of Odessa, Twila Heimbigner of Tai Pei, Taiwan, and Pam Bacon of Spokane; two brothers, Ivan Hemmerling of Odessa and Robert Hemmerling of Spokane; a sister, Viola Lightbody of Spokane; six grandchildren and five greatgrandchildren.

Scott Dunn Spokane

Memorial service for Scott Dean Dunn, 35, will be at 1 p.m. today at the Unitarian Universalist Church. The Cremation Society of Washington is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Dunn, a 15-year Spokane resident, died Tuesday.

He was born in Wallace, Idaho, and grew up in Pinehurst, Idaho.

Mr. Dunn had worked at Top Cuts Beauty Shop in Spokane.

He was a member of the Washington State Cosmetology Association and the North Idaho AIDS Coalition.

Survivors include his father and stepmother, Gary and Patricia Dunn of Pinehurst; his mother, Wanda Claspy of Tennessee; three brothers, Bill Dunn of Post Falls, Britt Glisson of Pinehurst and Gregg Glisson of Spokane; and two sisters, Dawn Wuolle and Laurie Dunn, both of Pinehurst.

Mary Miles Moses Lake

No service will be held for Mary M. Miles. The Cremation Society of Washington is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Miles, 72, died Saturday.

She was born in Sunburst, Mont., and was a homemaker.

Mrs. Miles had been a resident of Moses Lake since 1972.

Survivors include her husband, Otis; two daughters, Cindy Miles of Byrnes, Ore., and MaryLou Hardy of Quincy, Wash.; and a son, Robert Miles of Burns, Ore.

John ‘Speedy’ Quick Moses Lake

Visitation for John H. ‘Speedy’ Quick, 84, will be from 8 a.m. to noon today at Kaysers Chapel of Memories in Moses Lake. A private family committal service will follow at the Pioneer Memorial Gardens. Memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Moses Lake Alliance Church. Mr. Quick, who was born in Jacksonville, Texas, died Monday.

He worked in Jacksonville at J.L. Brown Department Store and United Gas Corporation.

Mr. Quick served in the Army and in 1944 married Roberta Dick in Tacoma. They moved to Jacksonsville in 1946 and then to Moses Lake in 1948.

He worked with the Grant County Public Utility District in utilization and then transferred to the Ephrata office in accounting.

Mr. Quick retired from Grant County’s customer collections as a supervisor in 1978.

He was a charter member of the Moses Lake Golf and Country Club.

Survivors include his wife; a son, John Quick of Edmonds, Wash.; a daughter, Linda Quick of Auburn, Wash.; and a grandson.

Hannah Stahlborn Cheney

Graveside service for Hannah M. Stahlborn, 84, will be at 11 a.m. today at Spokane Memorial Gardens.

Memorial service will follow at 1:30 p.m. at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Cheney. Cheney Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Stahlborn, who was born in Walla Walla, died Sunday.

She graduated in 1932 from Walla Walla High School.

In 1940 she married Ted Stahlborn in Walla Walla and then moved to Cheney.

She and her husband owned the Owl Pharmacy in Cheney, where she worked from 1948 to 1975.

Mrs. Stahlborn was a member of the Indian Canyon Women’s Golf Club, Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Order of the Eastern Star and the sorority Beta Sigma Phi.

Survivors include her husband; a son, David Stahlborn of Anchorage, Alaska; a daughter, Anne Tuttle of Issaquah, Wash.; three sisters, Katherine Frank of Santa Barbara, Calif., Betty Fosberg of Wenatchee and Edyth Dickson of Ritzville, Wash.; and six grandchildren.

Leah Prescott Spokane

Visitation for Leah Prescott, 80, will be from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. today at Heritage Funeral Home. Service will follow at 1 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be at Greenwood Memorial Terrace.

Mrs. Prescott, who was born in Holbrook, Ariz., died Sunday.

She worked as a licensed practical nurse for several years and later was a homemaker.

Mrs. Prescott was a 48-year Spokane resident and was a member of the Lincoln Heights Ward Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Her husband, William Prescott, died in 1995.

Survivors include three daughters, Virginia Hanks, Suzanne Williams and Margaret Ross; three sons, Weldon and Fred Prescott and Richard Sullivan; two brothers, Heward and Phillip Sharp; a sister, Freda Jones; 25 grandchildren, 56 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren.

Martha Grace Lyda Newport, Wash.

No service will be held for Martha Grace Lyda, 79, at this time. Sherman-Knapp Funeral Home in Newport is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Lyda, who was born in Republic, Wash., died Saturday.

She graduated in 1937 from Lewis and Clark High School.

Mrs. Lyda worked as a seamstress at a dry cleaning business before her retirement.

She moved to Newport in 1987 from Reno, Nev., where she had lived for several years.

Her husband preceded her in death.

Survivors include two sisters-in-law, Marie Oliver and Bernice Schutz, both of Newport; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

Merle Luvaas Spokane

Memorial service for Merle Elizabeth Luvaas, 69, will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Fairmount Mausoleum Chapel. The Cremation Society of Washington is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Luvaas, a lifetime Spokane resident, died Friday.

She was a homemaker.

Survivors include five sons; and her mother, Dorothy Culber.

Blanche Holland Spokane

Memorial service for Blanche M. Holland, 94, will be at 1 p.m. today at the Bethany Presbyterian Church. Private inurnment was held. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Holland, who was born in Springfield, S.D., died Saturday.

She worked for White Pine Sash for 17 years in addition to being a homemaker.

Mrs. Holland was a resident of Spokane for 78 years and a member of Bethany Presbyterian Church, Ladies of the Nile and Ladies of the Oriental Shrine, White Rose Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star and Spokane Floral.

Her husband, George, died in 1965.

Survivors include a son, Kenneth Holland of Spokane; a daughter, Virginia Marquardt of Spokane; two sisters, Evelyn Curtiss and Agnes Prelwitz, both of Spokane; five grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.

David Altvater Spokane

Vigil service for David Augustus Altvater, 84, will be at 5 p.m. today at Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home. Burial service will be at noon Saturday at Holy Cross Cemetery Chapel. Burial will follow.

Mr. Altvater, who was born in Duluth, Minn., died Tuesday.

He moved to Spokane in 1931 and worked as a plumber.

Mr. Altvater was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Parish and the Eagles Lodge No. 2.

His wife, Phyllis, preceded him in death.

Survivors include his companion, Hannah Engert of Spokane; three sons, William Altvater of Renton, Wash., David Altvater of Newman Lake and Steven Altvater of Spokane; two daughters, Dorothy Monroe of Allyn, Wash., and Mary Jane Chamberlin of Spokane; 12 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Eunice Anderson Mesa, Ariz.

Memorial service for Eunice Anderson, 83, will be at 2 p.m. today at St. David’s Episcopal Church. Burial will precede at Greenwood Memorial Terrace. Riplinger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Anderson, who was born in Lewistown, Mont., died Saturday.

She graduated from North Central High School in 1932.

Mrs. Anderson worked as a seamstress for a clothing manufacturer.

She was a member of St. David’s Episcopal Church.

She moved to Mesa two years ago.

Her husband, George, preceded her in death.

Survivors include a son, Harlan Anderson of Spokane; a granddaughter and a great-granddaughter.

Earl Goodman Sr. Spokane

Memorial service for Earl W. Goodman Sr., 81, will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-North.

Mr. Goodman, who was born in Leoti, Kans., died Tuesday.

He owned the U.S. Royal Tire Store in Wenatchee and moved to Spokane in 1966.

In 1980, he married Marjorie Mercer.

Mr. Goodman worked in retail sales in Spokane until his retirement in 1983.

He was a member of the Spokane Valley Eagles and the Thousand Trails/NACO Campgrounds.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Earl Goodman Jr. of Kirkland, Wash.; two brothers, Wayne and Delbert Goodman, both of Wenatchee; a sister, Irene Miller of Fort Collins, Colo.; and one grandson.

Dimitry ‘Jim’ Pilkovsky Tekoa, Wash.

Graveside service for Dimitry A. “Jim” Pilkovsky, 66, will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Goldenrod Cemetery in Tekoa. A gathering of family and friends will follow in the Fellowship Hall of the United Church of Christ in Tekoa. Kramer Funeral Home in Tekoa is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Pilkovsky, who was born in Gardner, Mass., died Dec. 31.

He began working as an electrician in Gardner and worked in commercial building construction from 1953 to 1986.

In 1986 he married Evelyn Jackson in Barrington, N.H., and they lived there before moving to Tekoa in the late 1980s.

Mr. Pilkovsky worked as an electrician in Washington and Idaho at constructions jobs. He retired in 1994.

He was a member of the Local 96 International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers in Worcester, Mass., and the Catholic church.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Michael Pilkovsky of Effingham, N.H.; a daughter, Michelle McDavitt of Chocorua, N.H.; two stepsons, Edward Sayers of Portland and Jeffrey Sayers of Tacoma; a stepdaughter, Jeanette Sayers of Portland; four sisters, Beatrice Laroche of Gardner, Jenny and Eleanor Zigas, both of Newington, Conn., and Reggie Taylor of Ashburnham, Mass.; and four grandchildren.

James ‘Eddie’ McWilliams Foster City, Calif.

Graveside service and burial for James Edward ‘Eddie’ McWilliams, 38, was Tuesday at Greenwood Memorial Terrace. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. McWilliams, who was born in Spokane, died Dec. 29 from natural causes.

He graduated from Ferris High School and in 1985 moved to California.

Mr. McWilliams was the manager of the Mariner’s Point Pro Shop in Foster City.

Survivors include his wife, Vicki; his father, Richard McWilliams of Spokane; his mother, Mary Lou McWilliams of Spokane; three brothers, Pat and Rob McWilliams, both of Spokane, and Dan McWilliams of Davis, Calif.; and a sister, Nancy Wright of Mukilteo, Wash.

Bernadine ‘B.B.’ Roach Spokane

Service for Bernadine ‘B.B.’ Roach, 39, will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home. Burial will be held in Chippewa Falls, Wis.

Mrs. Roach, who was born in Bremerton, died Tuesday.

She worked as a waitress at GTX Truck Stop, Second Avenue Grill and Barbara’s Cafe.

Mrs. Roach moved to Spokane 10 years ago.

Survivors include her husband of 19 years, Mark; a son, Alen Roach at home; a daughter, Christina Roach at home; two sisters, Rosemarie Bernier of Mount Vernon, Wash., and Georgia Sapiens of Salinas, Calif.; a brother, Christopher Howard of Vancouver, Wash.; and her grandmother, Bernadine Mathis of Moses Lake.

Naomi Caldwell Sunnyvale, Calif.

Memorial service for Naomi A. Caldwell, 85, will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the Trinity Methodist Church in Spokane. Private burial will be at Riverside Memorial Park. Santa Clara (Calif.) Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Caldwell, a former longtime Spokane resident, died Dec. 31.

She worked as a clerk in the mortgage and investment industry for 25 years.

Mrs. Caldwell moved to Sunnyvale four years ago.

Survivors include a son, David Caldwell of Santa Clara.

Willis Payne Spokane

Family service for Willis D. Payne, 63, will be held in Norcross, Minn., at a later date. Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-South is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Payne, who was born in Fergus Falls, Minn., died Dec. 30.

He moved to Spokane in 1975 and worked as a truck driver.

Survivors include a daughter, Debra Keith of Oceano, Calif.; and two granddaughters.

Billy Parker Spokane

Memorial service for Billy D. Parker, 55, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Eagles Lodge No. 2. A potluck will follow the service. The Cremation Society of Washington is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Parker, who was born in Hayward, Calif., died Tuesday.

He moved to Wenatchee in the early 1950s.

Mr. Parker served in the Army during the Vietnam War, stationed in Korea.

He moved to Spokane in the mid1980s and worked as a laborer in the construction industry.

Mr. Parker was a member of the Laborers Union Local 238.

Survivors include his companion, Kathleen Bluel at home; two sisters, Dois Austin of Wenatchee and Mrs. Colin Knight of Stanwood, Wash.; three brothers, Harold Parker of East Wenatchee, David Parker of Everett and Donald Parker of Medical Lake.

Robert Foster Reardan, Wash.

Memorial service for Robert Lee “Bob” Foster, 66, will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the community hall in Reardan. Inurnment will be at Reardan Cemetery. Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Foster, who was born in Beaver, Ark., died Dec. 31.

He served in the Air Force for 24 years and retired in 1978.

Mr. Foster was a member of the National Rifle Association and a resident of Spokane for 26 years.

Survivors include his wife, Marian; three sons, Colin Foster of Spokane, Frank Foster of Everett and Brett Foster of Korea; two daughters, Tomi Gilbert of Germany and Bobi Foster of Tacoma; nine brothers and sisters; and 10 grandchildren.

George Dieter Spokane

No service will be held for George M. Dieter, 81, at his request. The Cremation Society of Washington is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Dieter, who was born in Devils Lake, N.D., died Sunday.

He graduated in 1938 from Washington State University and served in the Army during World War II.

Mr. Dieter graduated from the Command and Staff College and was awarded a Silver Star and two Bronze Stars.

In 1942 he married Isabel Nelson in Washington, D.C.

He moved to Spokane in 1945 where he owned and operated his own accounting firm until he retired in 1978.

Mr. Dieter was a former 7th District Republican leader.

Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Gail Hanson of Kirkland, Wash.; and three grandchildren.

Craig Curtis Waverly, Wash.

No service will be held for Craig Curtis. Schanzenbach Funeral Home in Fairfield is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Curtis, 48, died Sunday.

He was born in Colfax, Wash., and moved to Waverly six years later.

In 1983 he married Janice Anderson in Waverly.

Mr. Curtis worked for a moving business for a number of years.

He was a member of the Waverly City Council on which he had served for several years.

Survivors include his wife; two stepsons, Malcolm and Joseph Long, both of Spokane; a brother, Clifford Curtis of Waverly; and a sister, Sharon Lowary of Elk, Wash.
