Young Caldwell Organ Recipient Fights Pneumonia

Associated Press

Julianne Prudhomme, the 5-year-old Caldwell, Idaho, girl who received five organs in a rare transplant operation 10 months ago, is doing well and should recover from a bout with pneumonia.

That was the word Thursday from doctors at Jackson Children’s Hospital, where Julianne received a new stomach, pancreas, liver, duodenum and intestines last March.

The girl was hospitalized in Boise this week with blood clots and then what St. Luke’s Regional Medical Center termed as life-threatening pneumonia.

She was flown Wednesday night back to Miami.

Doctors said Julianne was suffering from a form of pneumonia that they have not been able to identify. She was listed in critical but stable condition Thursday afternoon.

She is on antibiotics and on a ventilator but is improving and she is expected to come through the ailment in the next few days, Jackson doctors said.
