Death Of Mormon Legend

Paul H. Dunn, above, a Mormon leader who was regarded as one of the church’s most inspirational speakers until it was learned that his tales of war heroics and sports feats were fabrications, died Friday of a heart attack at 73. The former member of the First Quorum of the Seventy of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints claimed his best friend died in his arms in World War II. He also said he signed a baseball contract after high school to play with the St. Louis Cardinals. The Arizona Republic reported that both stories had been made up. Dunn issued an apology in 1991.
