Disney World Plans Addition

Knight-Ridder

So the family has already seen it all at Disney World? Not for long.

Mickey and his imagineer buddies plan to open the gates to a fourth park at Disney’s Orlando-area complex on April 22 with the addition of Animal Kingdom, described by Disney as a theme park with live wild animals as well as mythical and long-vanished beasts.

It also will have thrill rides, exotic landscapes and story lines that aim to demonstrate the beauty and wonder of the animal kingdom and the perils animals face today.

Animal Kingdom will be spread over 500 acres, the largest of all Disney’s parks and five times the size of the Magic Kingdom. It’s been under development for six years.

The addition will mean a revised ticketing scheme for the mega-park, and new challenges for families that want to see it all, including the original Magic Kingdom Park, Epcot and the Disney-MGM Studios.

Disney recently announced the April opening date, moving it up a couple of weeks from a previously announced date in May. Ticket packages were still being worked out. For information, call (407) 934-7639 or check the Web site http://www.disney.com
