German teammates Martina Ertl and Katja Seizinger finished 1-2 in a World Cup giant slalom in Bormio, Italy, ending local favorite Deborah Compagnoni’s winning streak.

The Italian skier finished third. Compagnoni had won nine consecutive giant slaloms over two seasons.

In Schladming, Austria, Hermann Maier took a big step toward winning the men’s World Cup, leading an Austrian 1-2 sweep in a World Cup super giant slalom.

The 25-year-old former bricklayer and part-time ski instructor raced to victory down the icy, demanding Planai course in 1:14.95. He beat fellow Austrian Stephan Eberharter by 1.15 seconds.
