All-American receiver Jacquez Green is skipping his senior season for the NFL, the third Florida receiver to turn pro early in the past two years.

The 5-foot-9 Green, who had 61 catches for 1,024 yards and nine touchdowns, had said after the Gators’ 21-6 victory over Penn State in the Citrus Bowl that he would likely make himself available for the NFL draft.

Walter “Piggy” Barnes, who played football at LSU before and after WWII - including the 9-1 Cotton Bowl team of 1946 - and for the Philadelphia Eagles from 1948-51 and appeared in a number of movies, has died in Baton Rouge, La.

He played Sheriff Sam Shaw in “High Plains Drifter” with Clint Eastwood in 1973 and Sheriff Grady in “Cahill, U.S. Marshall” with John Wayne in 1973.

Russian-born Ruth Rothfarb, 96, who began running at 69, completed several Boston Marathons and held nearly two dozen world records in her age group, has died in Boston. At 84, she was running 10 miles a day and running marathons in about 5-1/2 hours.
