Burst Pipes Force 30 To Evacuate

From Staff Reports

About 30 elderly north Spokane residents were displaced from their apartments Monday when a fire sprinkler pipe froze and burst, Spokane fire officials said.

The pipe burst about 6 p.m. at the Viking Plass Senior Adult Living Center, 6711 N. Cedar. It was in the attic of the 3-1/2-story complex.

Water flooded 26 apartments in the west wing of the complex and forced the evacuation of residents, Battalion Chief Joe Stapleton said. There were no injuries.

Firefighters spent about two hours working to contain the water flow from the broken pipe.
