Dollar Higher As Stocks Rebound
The dollar rose against the Japanese yen and German mark Monday as U.S. stocks advanced despite a selloff in many global markets that was triggered by a plunge in Hong Kong stocks.
Wall Street’s gains encouraged traders to seek the dollar as a haven from Asia’s troubled financial markets. But lingering fears that U.S. and Japanese central banks might move in concert to support the sagging yen limited the dollar’s rise.
