Finals Field Star-Studded For 50th Awards Banquet WSU And Ewu Teams Produce 12 Of 20 In Running For Honors

The Inland Northwest Sports Awards Banquet turns 50 and nationally ranked area football teams will help with the celebrating.

Washington State and Eastern Washington university teams, athletes and coaches are among finalists for the Golden Anniversary banquet, 7 p.m. Feb. 11 in the Ag Trade Center.

Bill Walsh, who guided San Francisco to three Super Bowl championships during a 10-year career, is the featured speaker. Dennis Hull returns as master of ceremonies.

Tickets, priced at $50, are on sale through the Greater Spokane Sports Association, 801 W. Riverside. Reservations can be made by calling 456-5812.

The evening banquet will feature a total of eight current or former WSU athletes, coaches and teams as finalists. Included are Cougars quarterback Ryan Leaf and Detroit Lion’s kicker Jason Hanson, the Cougars football and volleyball teams and their coaches, Mike Price and Cindy Fredrick.

Two EWU football players, quarterback Harry Leons and rusher Rex Prescott, the Eagles team and coach Mike Kramer are also among the finalists.
