Vandals Sign Three More To Play Football Next Season

The Idaho football team has signed two junior college transfers and a high school player. All are currently enrolled at UI.

The two transfers are quarterback Greg Robertson, from Ricks College in Rexburg, Idaho, and running back Michael Moody, from Cerritos College in Norwalk, Calif.

Wide receiver Chris Lacy, from San Jose, signed with UI last year as a high school senior but didn’t meet academic requirements. Lacy has since achieved the required test scores and is attending Idaho.

Robertson, 6-foot-2 and 215 pounds, passed for 37 touchdowns and earned second-team allNJCAA honors. He will battle with Ed Dean and John Welsh for the starting job. Dean will be the favorite going into spring drills.

Moody, at 5-10 and 195 pounds, has a good combination of power and speed. He’ll likely add depth behind Joel Thomas, who is expected to receive a sixth year of eligibility after missing nearly all of last season with a knee injury.

SWAC rankings

Dixie (17-1) remained fifth in the latest NJCAA men’s basketball poll. Southern Idaho (16-1), which entertains North Idaho on Friday, is rated No. 11.

CSI’s women (14-2) are the highest-ranked Scenic West Athletic Conference team at No. 12. NIC visits CSI on Friday. Salt Lake (11-4) is No. 24. Ricks and Utah Valley received votes.

Bishop Kelly No. 1, Moscow No. 4

Bishop Kelly knocked off previously top-ranked Emmett last week and replaced the Huskies atop the Associated Press Idaho A-2 high school basketball rankings.

The Huskies dropped to third just behind Preston. Moscow and Snake River each went 2-0 and stayed in the final spots of the poll.

Capital again was the unanimous choice atop the A-1 rankings. Troy, meanwhile, assumed the top A-4 spot over Hagerman. Lakeside is No. 3. Unbeaten Declo was the unanimous No. 1 pick in A-3.
