Di Producer Doesn’t Plan To Profit In His Own Time

Compiled By Staff Writer Rick Bo

Plans are moving forward for a British television movie about the late Princess Diana, despite objections from her family.

“No one was required to seek permission to make movies about Jesus Christ, Gandhi, JFK, Jackie Onassis, Elvis Presley or the Ten Commandments,” said former tabloid editor turned filmmaker Kelvin MacKenzie.

Starring unknown actress Amy Seccombe, the film will take a “friendly view” of Diana and her relationship with Dodi Fayed, MacKenzie said, and won’t have any sex scenes or depict their fatal auto accident. Princes William and Harry will be portrayed, but not Prince Charles or other royal family members.

No money will be given to Diana’s memorial fund, MacKenzie added, because “we don’t expect to make money.”

Loose talk

Brazilian ambassador’s wife Lucia Flecha de Lima, on Princess Diana: “I believe she loved her husband (Prince Charles) until the end, even more than she herself knew it. I do not think the princess was in love with Dodi Fayed. They did not know each other that well.”

When will we see her name on a movie marquee?

It sounds like Golan is reaching new heights

Action moviemaker Menahem Golan (of “Delta Force” fame) has finished filming “The Versace Movie,” bidding to be the first to bring the story of designer Gianni Versace’s slaying to the big screen. The flick, starring Franco Nero as Versace and newcomer Shane Perdue as Andrew Cunanan, could be in theaters by spring.

But it didn’t keep him from getting into hot water

Christian Slater, who beat up his girlfriend during an August drug and booze binge, started serving a 90-day jail term Wednesday for assault and resisting arrest, just days before the opening of his new film “Hard Rain.” Said Slater: “Ironically, I thought making this movie was training for any adversity I might face in life. I spent five months standing in 5 feet of cold water in order to make it.”

Guess she was taking the ‘Titanic’ part too far

According to a production source, “Titanic” director James Cameron initially dubbed female lead Kate Winslet “Kate Whines-a-lot,” then, after she gained a few pounds, changed that to “Kate Weighs-a-lot.” Scoffed a Winslet spokeswoman: “It’s too silly to respond to - Kate is thrilled with the movie.”

And she kept growing, and growing, and growing

Elizabeth Taylor is scheduled to receive a lifetime achievement award from the Screen Actors Guild in March. “From the time Miss Taylor first entered our lives as the innocent child in ‘National Velvet,’ the world has loved her,” said guild president Richard Mazur. “As we watched her grow, both as a person and an actor, she presented us with gift after gift in the form of her performances.”
