Shortstop Kevin Stocker and the expansion Tampa Bay Devil Rays agreed Thursday to a $7.5 million, three-year contract.
Stocker, a graduate of Spokane’s Central Valley High and the University of Washington, had been eligible for salary arbitration. He will receive $1.8 million in 1998, $2.4 million in 1999 and $3.3 million in 2000.
Stocker, a good defensive player, was acquired Nov. 18 in a trade with Philadelphia in which the Phillies acquired outfielder Bob Abreu, whom the Devil Rays had selected in the first round of the expansion draft.
Stocker hit .266 last season with four homers and 40 RBIs and made $890,000. He had spent five seasons with the Phillies, compiling a .262 average with 14 homers.
