Lance Kicks Off Campaign

With unusually strong support from Gov. Phil Batt, Attorney General Alan Lance launched his campaign for re-election Thursday at the Statehouse.

Usually state officials at least publicly maintain a neutral stance until after the primary election.

That wasn’t the case for Batt, who asked for and received special permission to appear on the third floor of the Statehouse, which is under the control of the Legislature.

“Al and I have operated as a team since we were elected,” Batt said, calling his fellow Republican “a real voice of reason.”

In September, Batt announced he would not seek a second term and said Lance would be the only Republican he would campaign for.

Lance is not expected to have opposition in the May 26 primary.
