Man Tries To Rob Clerk Holding Baby

From Staff Reports

A man tried to rob the Best Western motel at 120 W. Third on Wednesday night, but left empty-handed after a baby-toting clerk told him the money was in a safe.

The man came into the lobby of the hotel around 6:20 p.m. and demanded money from a clerk who had a baby in her arms, said Dick Cottam, police spokesman.

When the clerk hesitated a moment, the man displayed the butt of a handgun tucked into his waistband. The clerk told him the money was in a safe which she couldn’t open. He then left, police said.

The man was about 6 feet 4 inches tall and weighed approximately 170 lbs. He wore a gray, hooded sweat shirt, black jeans and tennis shoes.
