Rupp Leads Cda Past East Valley

Jim Rupp scored 23 points for Coeur d’Alene to help offset the 27-point scoring effort of Andrew Burgess as the Vikings (9-3, 7-2) whipped the Knights (1-10, 0-7) 78-63 in Border League basketball action at Coeur d’Alene.

East Valley trailed by 16 at halftime, but got within five in the third quarter. Burgess was nine of 11 from the field and 3 of 3 from the freethrow line.

Ken Pluff’s 9-of-12 shooting from the field contributed to his game-high 23 points for the first-place Knights (8-3, 3-0).

Pluff also collected five rebounds, six steals and five assists. Lakeside hit 11 of 25 3-point shots.

It was the first league loss for Falls Christian (6-5, 1-1).

Ben Blanchard hit two free throws with 3 seconds left to seal the win for the Miners (5-5).

The Spartans (4-5) led by six points at halftime thanks to 60-percent shooting from 3-point land. Wallace employed a half-court press in the second-half that dropped Priest River’s 3-point shooting to 20 percent and forced numerous turnovers.

Priest River’s Kevin Behnke led all scorers with 18 and also grabbed 12 rebounds.
