San Diego Gets Better Of Gu In Stretch

Susie Erpelding scored 20 points and San Diego shot a crisp 49 percent from the field Thursday as the Toreros defeated visiting Gonzaga 68-62 in a West Coast Conference women’s basketball game.

Staci Andrews made two free throws with 6 minutes, 24 seconds remaining, giving Gonzaga (9-6, 1-2) a 57-56 lead. San Diego (7-8, 2-1) scored the next three points before Gonzaga’s Shennae McNairy made a jumper, tying the score at 59 with 5:03 remaining.

Andrews made the second of two free-throw attempts to pull Gonzaga within 64-62 at 1:11, but it proved to be the Bulldogs’ only point in the final 3 minutes.
