White House lawyers have asked that Vice President Al Gore’s official telephone number be removed from a political action committee’s Internet site. They said the site registered to The Friends of Al Gore, a PAC filed with the Federal Election Commission, was established by a friend of a former Gore aide. It provides a direct line to Gore’s White House office. The White House said Gore did not subsidize the Web site in any way. According to the FEC, the PAC was established for Gore’s Senate campaigns and had $114,886 on hand as of June 30, 1997.
