Getz Gleans 28 Points As Cheney Rolls Along

Point guard Anna Getz continues to aim toward her fourth consecutive state tournament as a member of the Cheney Blackhawks.

Getz scored 13 of her 28 points in the third quarter and finished 4 of 7 on 3-pointers as the eighth-ranked Blackhawks (10-3, 8-1) defeated host East Valley 68-42 in a Border League game Saturday.

Cheney placed sixth at the State AA Tournament during Getz’s freshman year and also qualified in 1996 and ‘97.

Tanya Birchler added seven rebounds for Cheney, which notched 22 steals. EV (4-8, 3-5) had 27 turnovers but outrebounded the Blackhawks 35-27.

The Eagles (7-6, 5-4), who were 23 of 33 from the line, outrebounded the visiting Bantams (0-9, 0-8) 49-21 for the win.

West Valley’s Heather Huffman scored 13 first-half points and had 10 rebounds. Teammate Amanda Holstrom had 11 boards.

Janelle Ruen had seven rebounds and five steals, and Desiree Johnson added nine rebounds for the Trojans. PF hit 34 percent from the floor.

Pullman’s Christa Brossman, who finished with 30 points, was 12 of 14 from the line and scored 11 in the third quarter. Newport was 19 of 23 from the line.
