Brydges’ 16 Lifts Broncos Over Vandals

Kim Brydges scored 16 points to lead four Boise State players in double figures as the Broncos beat Idaho 71-56 in a college women’s basketball game before 1,623 fans Thursday in Boise State’s Pavilion.

Boise State (10-7, 4-1 Big West) moved into sole possession of second place in the Eastern Division. Idaho fell to 3-2 and 7-11.

Kellie Lewis and Heidi Umthun each scored 12 points for the Broncos. Stephanie Block added 10.

Idaho, which never led, closed Boise State’s lead to 49-41 on two Kelli Johnson free throws with 12:09 left in the game. But the Broncos went on a 12-0 run over the next 6 minutes to take their biggest lead at 61-41 with 6:17 remaining.

The Vandals, who trailed 37-31 at halftime, shot just 28 percent in the second half while the Broncos shot 43 percent.

Kelli Johnson led the Vandals with 15 points. Alli Nieman added 14 points and six rebounds. Kathryn Gussett had nine points and a game-high nine rebounds.

Idaho plays host to Eastern Division leader Nevada on Monday in Memorial Gym at 7 p.m.
