Hulbert Takes Early Lead

Compiled From Wire Services

Mike Hulbert fired an 8-under-par 63 to take a one-stroke lead in the Phoenix Open in Scottsdale, Ariz.

Hulbert birdied eight holes while opening a one-shot lead over Steve Stricker and Brent Geiberger.

Defending champion Steve Jones, Larry Rinker and David Duval were two strokes back.

Former Pullman resident Kirk Triplett was seven shots back after shooting a 70.

The tropical island of Phuket went from paradise to purgatory for Tiger Woods, who trailed four leaders by five strokes after one round of the Johnnie Walker Classic in Phuket, Thailand.

Ernie Els, Thomas Bjorn, Prayad Marksaeng and Alexader Cejka shot 67s to share the lead in the $1.3 million tournament.

The second round of the LPGA Office Depot Pro-Am was postponed when heavy overnight rain made both courses at Ibis Country Club in West Palm Beach, Fla., unplayable. Each of the last three rounds will be delayed one day.
