Huskies Substitute Utah State For Miami On ‘98 Football Slate

Compiled From Wire Services

The Washington Huskies have dropped Miami from their 1998 football schedule, replacing the Hurricanes with Utah State of the Big West Conference, it was announced Friday.

The Huskies were scheduled to play Miami on Sept. 12 at Husky Stadium in their home opener. Instead, they will play Utah State on Oct. 10 in Seattle. That day was supposed to be a bye for Washington.

The Huskies now will have a bye week before their new home opener against BYU Sept. 19.

“Jim (Lambright, the coach) feels it is in our best interests not to play Miami next year,” UW media relations director Jim Daves said.

Washington beat Utah State 45-0 in Logan in 1904 in the schools’ only other meeting in football.

Washington will play Miami in Seattle Sept. 9, 2000, and in Miami Sept. 15, 2001.
